I think it’s one of the best places to go in Scotland.
Actually strike that — it is THE best place to go in Scotland.
While I only drove as far on the North Coast 500 as the turn off to Achiltbuie — just south of Elphin — what I saw is amazeballs.
And I hear it gets even better further north.
So I know I’ll go back and stay longer.
Here are some of the images I created on my trip that I think will make you want to travel to this dazzling part of Scotland.
And my guess is if you make that journey, you’ll promptly fall in love.

Amazing photos!! Unbelievably I’m from the north east of Scotland (well, an island but still!) and I’ve still NEVER been to the north west! I wanted to do it last year but didn’t have time, so it’s definitely on the list for this year! Your pictures have just convinced me even more. 🙂
Kind of like me, as an American when I say, “I’ve never been to Yosemite.” We all miss destinations in our own country. But I do hope you make it to the northwest. It’s truly stunning!
The Scottish countryside is gorgeous! Beautiful pics!
Thanks for the comment, Nina. And yes, the Scottish landscape is stunning!
I cannot believe I have never been to Scotland but your photo essay has just convinced me I have to make time and go! Fantastic photos!
Scotland is drop dead gorgeous. If you love beautiful scenery then you should definitely make a visit!
Some stunning pictures of one of my favourite places. Inspired to go back to my photography archives and relive some happy times – thank you!
You’re welcome, Suz. And thank you for the compliment. Maybe you need to go back to the area again soon!!
Wow! You’re right, that is amazingly beautiful. I would love to spend time here. Are there camping places or do you stay in B&Bs all the time ?
I would think there are camping spots but I stayed in a B&B. I think there are lots of holiday cottages as well.
What stunning photos! I’ve always wanted to visit Scotland, but that has made me add the northwest region to the list! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the comment, Annette. I’d definitely put the northwest on your list and make it a priority. You won’t be disappointed!
Wow, your pictures are so beautiful. I am going to Scotland next month for the first time and I can’t wait!
It’s a gorgeous country, Maike. Do try to get up to the far northwest!
