Happy International Women’s Day! This is a day to celebrate all the women of the world – no matter where they live, what they do or what they believe. Travel has taught me that women are basically all the same around the world – we all want the same things in life: food, shelter, a job, to be safe and to raise our children to be good people. We want to love and be loved.
This is one of my favorite images of a Turkish woman who was making gözleme at the market in the seaside town of Kalkan. I was drawn to her weathered face, her hard-working nature and a spirited personality I sensed from how she interacted with others. To me she epitomizes women around the world. And, to all the women out there who aren’t as fortunate to live as freely as so many of us do, we will continue to fight for you so that you have the same basic rights that you deserve.
So, to the many different, unique, and beautiful women around the globe, we salute you, thank you and celebrate everything that is wonderful and amazing about you!
