Lane Lodge in Doolin is one of those Irish B&B’s that’s affordable, in a great location, offers a stellar breakfast and has a helpful host.
And it’s warm and cozy which is important for Ireland — because it can get chilly.
All of these features make it one of the best places to stay in Doolin — and one of the best places to stay in County Clare.
Location
Lane Lodge is located just off the busy Fisher Street, yet it’s quiet.
You walk up a one lane road to this lovely house with it’s front deck.
There are views out toward the the sea and the cliffs that lead to the star of the area — the Cliffs of Moher.
And there are views toward the cow and sheep dotted fields and hills of County Clare.
It’s a short walk to Gus O’Connor’s Pub on Fisher Street and a few shops that line that street.
And you can walk down the road to McGann’s and McDermott’s pubs.
You’re also in the perfect location to visit the Burren, which was my main reason for visiting this area of County Clare.
The location is superb!
Rooms at Lane Lodge
As a single traveler, I often get smaller rooms.
And I did have a small room with slanted ceilings.
For me, it was perfect.
The bed is comfy and warm.
It’s clean which is always at the top of my list.
And the bathroom is just big enough for one with a hot shower, a few toiletries and fluffy towels and washcloths.
Not every place has washcloths!
My room would have been a bit small for 2 people.
The other rooms I saw are bigger, but the rooms aren’t large. They’re “big enough.”
One of my favorite aspects of the room I had is the skylight window that I could pop my head out of to take pictures and that I could gaze out of at night to look at all the stars.
Yes, I had some clear skies!
The other thing I loved — that might sound a bit silly — is that Teresa, the owner, had put hooks on the wall.
It’s a little thing that meant a lot in a small room.
I hung up my jackets, my pants that got a little wet after a hike and my purse.
Great use of space!
Breakfast
Teresa has one of the best breakfasts because she puts out a nice array of fresh fruit.
I’ve commented before that I’m not a huge breakfast eater.
I’m happy with tea and some fruit and yogurt.
And fresh fruit is a big deal to me.
Lane Lodge didn’t disappoint.
The cooked breakfast, made to order, look fabulous.
Eggs, sausage, full Irish — Teresa cooks it all herself and it’s delicious from what other guests told me. It sure smelled good.
So Lane Lodge definitely ticks the breakfast box!
Your host at Lane Lodge
Teresa Shannon is your host at Lane Lodge.
I love her!
Now she’s not some warm, fuzzy grandmotherly type.
But she is a friendly, helpful host.
She’s a single mom to 2 young men, local gal and avid walker.
Teresa knows the area well so she will steer you in the right direction when it comes to which pub is the best and what walks are the most picturesque.
I had a few wonderful conversations with her about travel, Doolin (and how it’s changed) and life in general.
She readily hands out maps and guidebooks on the area for you to use during your stay. You’ll find them in the dining room.
One thing that is a nice touch is that Teresa has reflective arm bands use can use as you walk down the road at night.
Doolin is really a collection of settlements and there are no sidewalks in some areas.
So the armbands make you visible to the cars — although the road is not a super busy one.
It’s things like this that make Teresa a thoughtful host.
And her 2 cute dogs just add to Lane Lodge’s charm.
Great price
Lane Lodge has some of the best prices in Doolin so, in my opinion, it’s one of the best places to stay in Doolin.
At the time of this post the prices start at €30 per person per night.
Prices will be higher in mid to high season.
But that’s a fabulous deal for a warm, comfortable room and a generous, tasty breakfast.
The verdict on Lane Lodge
I would highly recommend Lane Lodge for those who are looking for a simple, clean B&B.
The location is excellent.
There’s ample parking if you’re driving.
And Teresa is a wonderful, caring and helpful host.
Be sure to check it out for your trip to Doolin and County Clare.
This is part of a series I call Charming Places — a series in which I talk about the places I stay. From B&B’s, hotels and guesthouses to apartments and farm stays, I’ll give my honest thoughts on these spaces. I’ve found that the accommodation I choose to stay often directly affects how I feel about a particular destination. And how I connect with that location and its people. So I want to share these places with you by dishing out a bit of info and some of my opinions.
Disclaimer: I was a guest of Lane Lodge so my stay was discounted. However all opinions are my own.
The Lane Lodge looks like a lovely place! I lived in Ireland for 9 months while I was at university. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.
Ireland is a wonderful and special country for sure. You were so lucky to have lived there for 9 months.
