Rooms Pekovec Bohinj, also known as Sobe Pekovec Bohinj in Slovenian, is a wonderful place to stay for your time in Lake Bohinj, Slovenia.
It’s in a great location, is a fabulous value and you will be welcomed with warm hospitality.
But, as I always say, it won’t be for everyone.
So let’s dive into this wonderful accommodation.
Where is Rooms Pekovec Bohinj?
Rooms Pekovec is specifically in the settlement of Stara Fuzina.
Stara Fuzina is just a short 5-10 minute walk from the shores of Lake Bohinj and it’s in the gorgeous Triglav National Park.
Rooms Pekovec is located on a quiet street in the heart of the settlement.
It’s an easy and beautiful walk to the lake through the fields.
And there are a couple of small grocery stores a short walk away as well as a few restaurants.
The house
The house has a large yard in back which you are welcome to use.
There are tables to sit and have a drink or a bite to eat.
You are also welcome to use the kitchen which is a nice touch at Rooms Pekovec.
There’s a refrigerator in a side room and you can help yourself to plates, utensils, pots and pans and the stove.
So if you are on a budget, or simply want to have a night off from eating out, you can make your own meal and sit out back to enjoy it and take in the views.
Oh.
That’s right.
I forgot to mention the views.
Yes, there are some lovely views of the surrounding mountains.
While you can’t see Lake Bohinj, the mountains, hills and valleys that make up this piece of Slovenia are beautiful.
After all, you are in Triglav National Park!
Breakfast
For €7 you can add breakfast to your room.
And the breakfast is ample, fresh and tasty!
Tanja’s mom (whose name has completely escaped me!) will always have a delicious plate full of meats, cheeses and veggies waiting for you.
You’ll find fresh bread with very fresh butter on your table as well.
There are cereals, yogurt, fresh whole fruit and coffee.
One of my favorite things is the homemade looseleaf tea.
Delish!
And Tanja’s mom also makes some kind of sweet bread/treat each morning.
Now, you don’t have to have breakfast.
I chose to have it the first morning I was there because I wanted to experience it.
But I don’t tend to eat a lot for breakfast so I bought a few things at the local market and ate that food the next 4 mornings.
So it’s up to you.
But if you love breakfast, then choose to have the Rooms Pekovec breakfast for the extra fee.
Well worth it!
The rooms
Rooms Pekovec has 7 rooms.
Room 1 is the largest with an en suite bathroom and a balcony.
Rooms 2 and 3 are bit smaller but are also en suite and have balconies.
The rest of the rooms — 4, 5, 6 & 7 — have shared bathrooms.
Each of these rooms is a different size and configuration — from a mini single to a triple.
The rooms aren’t big or luxurious.
These are small, simple and basic accommodation.
But the showers are hot and there’s ample space to put clothing and store luggage.
And the rooms are clean and very affordable.
Rates run from as little as €18 for the mini single in low season up to €70 for the triple room in high season.
I had room 3 — a small double with a balcony.
For the month of June the rate on this room is €44 a night.
What a bargain!
It has a small desk which is a plus for a digital nomad like me.
The room also has a full length mirror which is always a nice feature.
And the balcony is a good size with a small 2 seat outdoor love seat, another chair, a small table and — one of my favorite touches — a drying rack.
I loved sitting on the balcony with my morning tea and sitting out at night with some wine as I watched the stars come out.
Tanja and her mom
Tanja and her mom are wonderful.
Mom kind of runs the day to day show — cooking breakfast, baking and keeping it all clean.
Tanja is the one you’ll have contact with as you make your reservation.
She speaks fluent English and is a wealth of information on all the goings on in the Bohinj area.
She’s so warm and welcoming.
Mom doesn’t speak much English — at all.
But I just love her.
She’s as warm and welcoming as her daughter and she works hard.
I had some fun conversations with her where we were using a mix of English, Slovenian and lots of facial expressions and hand gestures.
This always seemed to lead to some laughs.
The joys of travel!
Tanja and her mom make Rooms Pekovec one of the most welcoming places I’ve stayed.
Final thoughts on Rooms Pekovec
I always stress that not every accommodation I stay at or review is going to be for everyone.
Rooms Pekovec is a simple and basic place to stay.
If you want something a bit more upscale, then this is not for you.
But if you are looking for a family-run, budget-friendly spot to stay in the Lake Bohinj area, then this is a fabulous choice.
Because this isn’t a B&B, hotel or guesthouse, you’re not going to have your room cleaned each day.
And you won’t have a big room.
But you will have a place that feels like home.
And for me, this is one of the best aspects to Sobe Pekovec.
It was here that I met some wonderful fellow travelers from around the globe — a young woman from Germany, a couple from Australia and a fellow middle-aged American woman.
In fact, the 5 of us went to one of the Wildflower Festival events together.
It’s because Rooms Pekovec brought us together — we would meet in the kitchen making dinner or breakfast and conversations would just happen and travel friendships were made.
This is the bonus point for this accommodation for sure.
So if you’re not sure where to stay in Lake Bohinj, consider Sobe Pekovec.
This is part of a series I call Charming Places — a series in which I talk about the places I stay. From B&B’s, hotels and guesthouses to apartments and farm stays, I’ll give my honest thoughts on these spaces. I’ve found that the accommodation I choose to stay often directly affects how I feel about a particular destination. And how I connect with that location and its people. So I want to share these places with you by dishing out a bit of info and some of my opinions.
Disclaimer: I was a guest of Sobe Pekovec Bohinj so my stay was discounted. However all opinions are my own.
Loved this post! The breakfast looks incredible, and I really love staying in such homely places! The views look awesome as well. Would definitely stay here 🙂
Thanks for the comment, Dani. Rooms Pekovec really is a warm, homey and friendly place to stay. Great location. Wonderful family. And a fabulous price!
