The 3 Reasons Why I Love the Beautiful Alpe di Siusi Italy
It’s hard not to love Alpe di Siusi, known as Seiser Alm in German.
Yes, it is more developed than other places in the Dolomites.
But the views!
They are amazing!
Beautiful!
Stunning!
Gorgeous!
Breathtaking!
I’ve just run out of adjectives 🤣
So here are the reasons why I love this incredible destination.
#1 It’s accessible for everyone
The wonderful thing about Alpe di Siusi is that it is very accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
I’ve seen families with young children in strollers.
I’ve seen older people who aren’t as able to walk.
In fact, just today I saw a woman with a walker on one of the gravel road/paths.
There are busses to get you up to this high altitude alpine meadow.
Or you can drive.
Or take the gondola.
Once in Alpe di Siusi, you can stick with paved paths/roads or tackle something more difficult such as hiking to the top of the Sciliar/Schlern.
And there are busses that run on the roads there for those who can’t walk too far.
You can rent an e-bike or a regular bike to get around on some of the trails.
There are also more chairlifts scattered about so you can get up to higher points without much walking.
Options.
Lots of options.
#2 The flora and fauna
So 2 years ago, 2019…remember that time?
Before the world turned upside down?
Yeah.
The good ol’ days.
Anyway…
I spent 3 weeks in Castelrotto from mid-June to about the 9th of July that year.
And I saw the wildflowers in full bloom and very green grass.
It was absolutely stunning.
With the flowers came bees and butterflies.
Loved it!
Now I get to see the grass turning a golden brown.
The bushes and shrubs are turning yellow with hints of red and rust.
It’s beautiful!
Then there are the animals.
Now I’ve not seen any marmots.
But I hear them.
Mostly you get the domesticated animals in Alpe di Siusi.
Lots of cows, a few goats or donkeys here and there.
And some horses.
I love the cows with their bells clanging in the breeze.
It’s fun to stop and watch them for a while.
They’re pretty friendly.
#3 The spectacular views
There is no doubt that the views are gorgeous in Alpe di Siusi.
No matter where you are in the Seiser Alm, you’ll have beautiful scenes of some sort.
There are a few spots where you get incredible 360 views.
You’ll be taking lots of photos.
Or maybe that’s just me.
I do take a LOT of pictures!
You’ll have the Sciliar in one direction with more mountains far off in the distance — good morning pics.
The Cima di Terrarossa is the ridge mountain that runs off of the Sciliar.
Opposite the Schlern are a couple of my favorites, the sassy Sassos.
That would be Sasso Lungo and Sasso Piatto.
To the left of those are the Sellagruppe then some of the peaks in Puez Odle nature park.
If you have clear weather, you may see the Marmolada to the right (and behind) Sasso Piatto.
I believe this peak is the highest one in the area at 3343m.
*sigh*
So you have mountains in all directions, rolling hills dotted with flowers or cows or golden brown grass or even snow (in winter of course).
The views are simply breathtaking.
And the gorgeous views are definitely what I love the most about Alpe di Siusi.
One bonus reason to love Alpe di Siusi
I mentioned accessibility above and with that comes easy to navigate trails.
It’s impossible to get lost in Seiser Alm.
The trails also connect to each other so it’s such a fabulous place to do circular walks.
And you can go for short hikes or you can hike all day long.
Your choice.
So there you have my reasons for loving Alpe di Siusi Italy
It’s definitely pretty well known with the Germans and many Italians.
I’d say they are the bulk of the travelers to this destination.
Seiser Alm is also getting a wee bit over developed.
But I still love it.
I can overlook it because of the beauty.
Come a bit out of season and you will have less crowds.
Yes you miss the wildflowers.
But it is gorgeous with crisp mornings, cool breezes and the warm sun.
I absolutely love this destination!

Wonderful three reasons. For me, my wife and I hiked there on my birthday 8/22. My new favorite spot on the planet.
It’s so easy to fall in love with this place!
