The 6 Top Travel Trends For 2025 You Need To Know
It’s a new year so this means there are some top travel trends that you may want to know about.
Some of these are trends that have been around for a few years but just continue to hang on and are seeing growth.
Others a bit newer as we enter firmly into a post pandemic world.
So let’s dive into the top travel trends for 2025.
Seeking lesser visited destinations
Now that so many folks have gone to bucket list and big name destinations post-COVID, we now seem to be seeking places that are not so popular.
I personally love this top travel trend as I’m all about finding locations that are not firmly on the tourist track.
It’s part of what I do with Wander Your Way.
So many of you are now looking to find destinations that others are not traveling to.
Sometimes this takes a bit more research on your part.
Or you can turn to a travel professional such as myself to help you.
But there are lots of places throughout Europe that are not as visited — even in popular countries such as France or Italy or Spain or Ireland.
I hope you’ll seek out lesser visited destinations for you next (or first) trip to Europe.
Solo travel
Solo travel keeps growing and growing.
It’s been one of the top travel trends over the past couple of years.
And one that seems to have staying power.
If you’ve been around the Wander Your Way universe for a while, then you know I’m a solo traveler.
We continue to see more and more women — and older women (think 50+) — travel alone.
I certainly have run into female solo travelers on my journeys.
We are also beginning to see a few more men travel solo.
But women definitely dominate the solo travel market.
My advice: if you have ever thought about traveling alone but have not taken the leap, then do it in 2025.
You won’t regret it.
More immersive travel
One of the top travel trends for 2025 is getting more immersive on your trips.
What does this mean?
It means going beyond seeing the sites and choosing experiences that offer a cultural exchange.
Think of experiences such as cooking classes where you are learning about different food and what it means to the destination you are visiting.
Or perhaps it’s kayaking in a bay where you encounter and learn about wildlife and hear stories of pirates and smugglers.
This is really an offshoot of slow travel which has definitely been a top travel trend over the past few years.
Immersive travel really helps the traveler connect with the locals and their culture.
It beats simply seeing a site and checking it off your list!
“Set jetting”
One of the top travel trends for 2025 is visiting places that appear in our favorite shows and movies.
The latest Star War franchise and Game of Thrones really started this pre-pandemic.
But this trend has grown a lot since then.
When it comes to spots in Europe, think shows like Emily in Paris, Outlander (Scotland) and White Lotus (Sicily).
This is a trend that might be a bit more popular with younger travelers.
But even some of us Gen Xers and Baby Boomers can get behind this trend.
Natural phenomena
With the northern lights being at their peak and the solar eclipse of 2024, more folks are traveling to experience natural phenomena such as these.
Another example of natural phenomena includes the bluebell bloom which occurs in parts of England in the middle of the spring.
And another example is the midnight sun in places like the far reaches of Norway or Sweden.
Or it might be seeing bioluminescence along the coasts of Wales or Ireland or northern Spain.
Seeing the nighttime skies by visiting one of the Dark Sky parks in Europe is another fabulous idea for experiencing natural phenomena.
You never know if you might see a shooting star!
I just love this top travel trend.
Cool-cations
I think one of my favorite of the top travel trends for 2025 is the rise of traveling to cool climates — especially for summer vacations.
Due to how hot it’s been in the summers in parts of Europe over the past few years, countries such as Norway, Iceland, Finland, Ireland and the UK as well as Denmark and the Baltics are seeing a rise in their tourism.
I am not one for really hot weather.
So I’m a fan of visiting these countries.
Of course, I’m a wee bit partial to Ireland and all of the UK, especially Scotland.
The other way to look at this is that folks are traveling more in shoulder season or off season to those warmer destinations.
This translates to visiting Rome or Seville (Spain) in October or November or perhaps even January to avoid the heat of summer.
Cool-cations may be here to stay!
