Do I really need a travel agent?
YES!
Pick me, Pick me 🙋♀️
Okay…
I’m kidding.
To be honest, I don’t think everyone needs to use a travel agent.
But there may be some reasons why YOU should use a travel agent.
So let’s look into when and why you need a travel planner — because there are specific types of trips and certain situations when it’s a great idea.
You’re not sure where you want to go
Some travelers simply don’t know where to begin.
They don’t even know which country to visit.
These folks answer, “Everywhere!” when someone asks them where they want to travel.
I totally understand this.
I feel the same way.
But a good travel planner can ask you the right questions to help you figure this out.
Are you into the outdoors and want an adventurous trip?
Do you love trying new food?
Do you want to stay in one place?
Or are you okay to move around a bit more?
A travel agent knows how to steer you to the right destination to fit your wants, needs, and your personality.
This is why you should use a travel agent.
You’re traveling internationally
Okay.
So, not everyone who travels internationally needs to use a travel agent.
This will depend on your comfort level and experience in traveling internationally.
But if this is your first trip — or even your second or third trip — this is a great reason to use a travel agent.
When it comes to traveling abroad, everything becomes more complicated and more daunting.
And can get pretty damn confusing.
So, this is a great time to find a personal travel planner. 🙋♀️(me, me!)
She will know all the ins and outs of international travel — from whether or not you need a visa, to navigating train travel, to helping you skip the line for those long waits at popular sites.
And she will be able to put together the perfect itinerary for you which means you get a trip personalized to suit your travel style.
Your travel planner will find the accommodation, tours, and transportation that fits your wants and needs.
She will make those bookings for you which can be more confusing when you are adding in the international element — because accommodation, transportation and tours can be different from country to country.
Your travel planner can even recommend restaurants, pubs or sites that often, she has personally visited.
Yup.
We travel planners are pretty amazing!
You’re traveling with a group
I’ve worked with a few larger groups that have run from 10-26 people.
It’s a bit like herding cats — as I like to say.
Groups can get unwieldy.
So, if you have a group, you definitely want to use a travel planner.
Even for a group of 5 or 6 people, a travel agent can be very beneficial.
A travel advisor will help keep everyone on the same page and help the group make those final decisions.
And, if your group is large, she will be able to get those group discounts.
So group travel is a great reason to use a travel agent.
You don’t have the time
This is the best reason why you should use a travel agent.
Admittedly, I hear this one from a lot of my clients.
I think this reason tied with the unknowns of traveling internationally create the strongest need for using a travel planner.
We are all busy — work, family, friends, hobbies, etc.
Taking the time to wade through all the information on the internet can take hours upon hours.
Most people don’t have the time to do all the research.
But this is what a travel agent does — research.
And typically, we can do the research far quicker than you.
No offense.
We simply know where to look and who to email or call and how to cut through the bullshit on the internet — because there is a LOT of information out there.
And it’s not all 100% transparent.
A good travel planner will have a network of reliable people to contact to when they need information on something specific to your trip.
Remember: You have 2 resources — money and time.
And while a travel agent can sometimes cost you a bit of extra money up front, it’s the time that you can’t get back.
You’re planning a special trip
I’ve definitely planned a handful of honeymoons and special birthday trips.
These “special occasion” holidays are good reasons to use a travel planner.
I love, love, love putting that personal touch on these types of vacations.
Honeymooners have enough on their plate without adding in the stress of planning a trip.
Special birthdays or anniversaries are a good reason to travel and to use a travel agent.
Maybe it’s a family reunion trip.
Why leave this special trip to chance when you can have a travel planner take care of everything for you?
This way you know things will go smoothly.
And — since a travel agent will have more clout (again, no offense) — she can arrange for a unique surprise.
We know how to work our network of travel professionals to make your trip truly memorable.
You want someone there “just in case”
Let’s face it – the world is imperfect.
Flights get cancelled, passports get lost, reservations get mixed up.
Shit happens.
A personal travel planner will be there for you — 24/7.
I always tell my clients to call or text me if they need anything along the way.
My phone is always with me and I am always aware of when my clients are traveling — especially on those days when they are moving from point A to point B.
A good travel planner will be able to resolve any issue that may arise.
And, give you the peace of mind as you travel.
I’ll share a recent story.
Couple A was on a honeymoon trip to Italy.
Everything went well the entire trip.
They were staying at a small guesthouse near the Rome airport on their last night as they had a very early flight out in the morning.
The guesthouse had arranged a private car pickup at 3:30am to get them to the airport for that 6:30am flight.
At about 9:50pm Eastern time (my time zone) / 3:50am Italy time (Couple A’s time zone), I get a text from the husband telling me the driver had not shown up.
I got on the internet and found some taxi numbers and texted these to him.
Within 10 minutes, he had found a taxi to take him and his wife to the airport
All was well.
It’s these moments of having someone you can count on that make all the difference in the world.
You want something different
This is my favorite reason to use a travel planner.
I love it when travelers tell me they want to go somewhere that’s not on the usual tourist track or that they want to have a unique experience.
It’s really my vision for Wander Your Way — my mission in life.
To get you to travel to those off the beaten path destinations and try something new or different.
I’ve talked about how no place is truly off the beaten path.
But what I think of when I hear this term are those spots that don’t pop up in every travel guide or on every website or Instagram account.
And a skilled, in-the-know travel planner will be able to assist you in finding those out-of-the-way places, those unique destinations, that interesting place to stay or those uncommon experiences.
For me, this is why I created Wander Your Way.
I really strive to find something out of the ordinary for my clients.
So that their trip is unique to them.
These are the top reasons why you should use a travel agent
Well, in my opinion they are!
Whether we are called travel advisors, travel planners, travel specialists or travel agents, remember that we are the experts.
Trust us.
We are not out to charge you more money although some of us, like me, do charge for our services.
Just like an attorney or an accountant or a plumber.
They’re experts in their fields.
And we are experts in the world of travel.
For me, I strive to get the best value for your money.
And I help you create that vacation you’ve been dreaming of.
I always say that I’m helping you create memories — not just a trip.
Memories of travel experiences that you’ll have for the rest of your life.
Experiences that touch your heart and soul.
Experiences that transform you.
For me, it is truly personal.
I want to assist you in writing your own unique and personal story through travel.
To help you have those “travel moments” and make those deeper connections.
To me, this is what travel is all about.
