Every Wednesday Wander Your Way will choose a destination for travel inspiration. It might be a city or town, a specific site, a region, a “must do” activity, a memorable place to stay, a unique shop or an exceptional restaurant. We call it Wander Wednesday.
This week, Wander Wednesday takes you to a place to warm yourself from all the cold, winter weather: Cocoa Beach, Florida. Cocoa Beach is located 80 miles south of Daytona Beach and 60 miles east of Orlando. It is just south of Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. The crowds aren’t typically here as they are in other parts of Florida so it’s a bit more low key. And, it’s one of the best places to surf on the East Coast.
Cocoa Beach is basically an island with the Atlantic Ocean to the East and the Banana River to the West. It’s a small community of a little over 11,000 people. Ron Jon’s Surf Shop is a huge tourist attraction and Kelly Slater, 11 time world champion surfer, is from this beach town. There are great place to stay, with a lot of condominiums and hotels right along the beach; and there are fabulous restaurants to fit every budget (with great seafood, of course). If you want to, you can take a tour of the Kennedy Space Center or you can make the drive to Disney World to spend the day there. But, we wouldn’t blame you if you just wanted to sit on the beach and watch the waves roll in. Cocoa Beach is a fabulous place to simply relax. One piece of advice: get up early for at least one sunrise. They’re gorgeous!
