This one is going to be short because yours truly is smoked! The West Highland Way was relentless today!!
Another 8:45am start took me mostly around Loch Lomond the entire way. But, let me tell you, it’s not some nice stroll around the lake.
There were some really nice spots of meandering through the forest. But mostly it was a challenge.
There’s lots of up and down, scrambling over rocks. Climbing up and then carefully down.
Rocks and tree roots abound. You’re so focused on just watching your footing that you forget to stop and simply take it all in.
Most of the trail is right next to the lake, but often there are trees in the way so you don’t always have views of the lake the mountains beyond.
But when there’s an opening, you stop and breathe — and take it all in.
It was a tough day for sure. And I know tomorrow it will begin that way, but then it will begin to go through some of the glens (valleys) which I’m really looking forward to.
For now, I’m saying goodnight from the Ardlui Hotel which is lovely. I’m watching the sun set on the mountains and Loch Lomond. Lucky me!!
Just 4 more days of the West Highland Way. And while today was challenging, it was still beautiful.
Until tomorrow…
