Glasha Farmhouse is a beautiful and elegant house located in northern County Waterford on the border with County Tipperary.
And it’s definitely a special place with lovely rooms that are clean and of a good size.
The bonus is a sensational host and yummy food.
It’s in the middle of nowhere
Well not quite, but close!
The village of Ballymacarbry is 4km away and Cahir Castle is about 20km northwest of this B&B.
But Glasha Farmhouse is not for those who want a spot right in town because there is no town here.
It’s for those who want some peace and quiet — who maybe want to go fishing or take a walk in the Comeragh Mountains.
This is a house to stay in when you want to reconnect with nature.
And while the location takes some wherewithal to get to, the views are wonderful — even in the rain.
The rooms of Glasha Farmhouse
Glasha has 6 lovely rooms — each one different and unique.
All are decorated beautifully with touches of baroque, traditional and modern.
The rooms are also spacious with modern bathrooms that are also large and include bathtubs. Something you don’t always get when you travel to Ireland.
My room, located on the ground floor, was fabulous.
Rich reds blended with cream and dark wood giving it a warm feel which was welcome as the weather was quite rainy and chilly during my stay.
The wifi works great which is important for a digital nomad like me.
And little touches like a carafe of water and nice soaps and shampoos in the bath put Glasha a notch above your average B&B.
The house
I truly wish the weather had been better because Glasha Farmhouse’s treasure is the conservatory and its garden.
But the sitting room with its fireplace is also lovely.
Had I stayed longer I know I would have sat in the sitting room with a glass of wine or cup of tea.
As it was, I was still able to sit in the conservatory after dinner with tea as the rains pounded the glass above me.
With drier weather in the morning I did get a better view of the gardens which I can imagine are in full bloom in late spring and summer.
These common spaces are another aspect that put Glasha Farmhouse a notch above the average B&B.
Food at Glasha Farmhouse
Yum!
Here’s the great thing about staying at Glasha Farmhouse — you might be in the middle of nowhere but you get a delicious dinner here.
And breakfast is pretty tasty too.
Now dinner isn’t included in the room price, but breakfast is.
So you can eat dinner at Glasha or not.
But be sure you eat here at least one night for dinner as the food is delish and well worth the cost.
The meals are fresh and inventive using local ingredients.
Because I’m not a huge meat eater — I’m a fish eating vegetarian in the States but adopt a “when in Rome” attitude when I travel — I had a small plate of beef with a mushroom compote for dinner. I requested a smaller than normal portion so don’t be put off by the photo. That’s a “Lynne size” portion.
It was very good.
The mushroom soup — the first course — was savory and I’m sure I could have had a huge bowl of it. It was amazing.
A strawberry merengue pastry finished off the meal. Divine!
I chose scrambled eggs for breakfast and so wanted to try the homemade bread and scones that the other guests raved about.
But with my gluten-sensitivity I had to refrain.
I did get gluten-free bread just not homemade. Very few folks have perfected gluten-free bread.
The eggs, however, were fresh and fluffy.
Seriously…the food at Glasha Farmhouse is fab!
Hospitality
I can’t say enough about Olive, the owner of Glasha Farmhouse.
She is amazing.
She takes good care of her guests, offers up suggestions and recommendations on things to do in the area and makes you feel at home.
Not only does she own the house, but she is the one cooking your breakfast and your dinner.
I don’t know how she does it!
For so many folks who travel to Ireland, interacting with the Irish is a highlight of the trip.
And I believe this begins with your B&B.
When you have a wonderful host it makes a huge difference and can get your stay in that location off to an excellent start.
Olive definitely is such a host.
Would I stay at Glasha Farmhouse again?
Yes!
And I am recommending it to you and to my travel clients.
My regret is that I only stayed one night.
There are some nice walks nearby as well as some interesting sites such as Cahir Castle and the town of Clonmel.
Here’s a hint: It’s a popular place so book in advance!
Disclaimer: I was a guest of Glasha Farmhouse so my stay and dinner was comped. However all opinions are my own.
